Boston, Massachusetts the city of neighborhoods

The city of Boston, Massachusetts is defined by its neighborhoods like other cities are defined by their skylines.  Katy Ward who is a city spokeswoman told me that “Boston has twenty-six neighborhoods and each one of them has its own identity. The great thing about Boston’s neighbors is how many different cultures are rooted in ever-changing face of Boston.  Every neighborhood takes pride in their neighborhoods and they are very protective of them. The wonderful think about Boston is you have a modern city but you can see the historical background that make Boston a great place to live. As Katy Ward told me “Boston has twenty-six neighborhoods” So I am only going to talk about a few of them.

First there is Back Bay neighborhood which is the most popular in the Boston area. It is so popular because of streets like Boylston Street, Commonwealth Avenue, and Newbury Street where you will find trendy shops and gourmet food and classic homes. The Back Bay neighborhood is home to the two biggest buildings in the city, the John Hancock Tower and the Prudential Center.  It is said that it is not uncommon to see a famous celebrity walk around the Back Bay.

Next you have Beacon Hill which is one of Boston oldest neighborhoods. Beacon Hill once was used to let the city’s locals warn each other about foreign attacks.  Beacon Hill sure will take you back in time with the Cobbled streets and the brick townhouses. Beacon Hill is home to the Boston Common and the Public Garden. Beacon Hill has been home for many famous people like Robert Frost, Daniel Webster, and Senator John Kerry.

Then you have Fenway Kenmore Neighborhood which is best known for being the home of the Boston Red Sox Fenway Ballpark. Fenway Kenmore is also home to many college students because Boston University and Northeastern University are in the area.  Fenway Kenmore is also home to great bars and restaurants for everyone to enjoy. The Symphony Hall and the Museum of Fine Arts are located in the Fenway Kenmore neighborhood of Boston.

The South Boston neighborhood (or Southie) is mostly made up of Irish Catholic and is where the famous St. Patrick Day Parade is held. South Boston is known for their triple -deckers and row houses since it is a very dense place.  South Boston is home to the famous Sullivan’s Tap, where you can get a tasty bite to eat. South Boston is famous for the movies that were filmed in the area  like The Town, The Departed, Good Will Hunting, and The Boondock Saints to name a few. South Boston has the Institute of Contemporary Art which opens later this year.

Charlestown neighborhood which is located on the banks of the Boston Harbor and the Mystic River has a very historical past. It is home to the U.S.S Constitution, the Navy Yard, and the famous Bunker Hill Monument. The Navy Yard as been change into residential housing and office space which has increased the population of Charlestown.  Like all of Boston, Charlestown is easy to walk and the waterfront is only five minutes away. Many new generations of immigrants choose Charlestown as their home and to live the American dream.
