They have the bus, the subway/commuter rail, boats, share a car program and bike share program.  Boston is also known for being a very walk able city. The T has been running in Boston since 1964 and it is the fourth busiest subway system in the United States. City of Boston has had mass transportation in the city since 1631. In Boston today there two new ways to get around Boston that many do not know about.

The official start date of the Hubway was July 28, 2011 with 600 bicycles and 60 stations all over Boston.  John who works for Hubway said" Hubway in Boston has been huge success." What great history and landmarks Boston has!

Boston has so many famous landmarks that you can learn about and visit but there is one landmark you have to visit when in Boston. The Freedom Trail which is a 2.5 mile red brick walking trail, which takes you to sixteen historical landmarks in Boston. Nowhere in the country can you walk a trail to so many historical landmarks in one area. The Freedom Trail is made up of museums, meeting houses, burying grounds, churches, parks, a ship and historic markers that tell the story of Boston. Tavia Malone who is the Business Manager of the Freedom Trail says “the Freedom Trail was the first and now cities all over the world try to duplicate what we have in Boston”

I have already talked about one of the sixteen landmarks on the Freedom Trail in Boston. There are two other landmarks that I want to talk about. First is Bunker Hill Monument which is at the top of my list when it comes to landmarks in Boston because it is where the Colonial Militia showed that they could fight against the British military and show the Colonies would not give up. The other Boston landmark that is one of my favorites is Old North Church which is known in Boston has Christ Church in the City of Boston. The Old North Church played an important role in the American Revolution which is legendary. The Church was used to warn the countryside how the British were advancing. Paul Revere told Robert Newman a church sexton how many lanterns to put out in the church steeple. For more information on the Freedom Trail and all the sixteen landmarks you can go to www.thefreedomtrail.org

Many people who are going to be visiting or moving will need to know what the weather is like in Boston, Massachusetts. Boston is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Boston Harbor so it hardly ever sees severe cold or heat temperatures. Boston weather gets such a bad wrap from people but they make it seem worse than it really is.

Winters in Boston are usually from December through February but can last part of March. Winter days normally are cold because at night the temperature drops below freezing and may stay below freezing during the day. Summers in Boston are usually warm, hot and very humid. Summers also bring the usual rain and thunderstorms. Besides the fall weather, summer is the best time to visit or move to Boston, Massachusetts.

Boston, Massachusetts the city of neighborhoods

The city of Boston, Massachusetts is defined by its neighborhoods like other cities are defined by their skylines.  Katy Ward who is a city spokeswoman told me that “Boston has twenty-six neighborhoods and each one of them has its own identity. The great thing about Boston’s neighbors is how many different cultures are rooted in ever-changing face of Boston.  Every neighborhood takes pride in their neighborhoods and they are very protective of them. The wonderful think about Boston is you have a modern city but you can see the historical background that make Boston a great place to live. As Katy Ward told me “Boston has twenty-six neighborhoods” So I am only going to talk about a few of them.

First there is Back Bay neighborhood which is the most popular in the Boston area. It is so popular because of streets like Boylston Street, Commonwealth Avenue, and Newbury Street where you will find trendy shops and gourmet food and classic homes. The Back Bay neighborhood is home to the two biggest buildings in the city, the John Hancock Tower and the Prudential Center.  It is said that it is not uncommon to see a famous celebrity walk around the Back Bay.

Next you have Beacon Hill which is one of Boston oldest neighborhoods. Beacon Hill once was used to let the city’s locals warn each other about foreign attacks.  Beacon Hill sure will take you back in time with the Cobbled streets and the brick townhouses. Beacon Hill is home to the Boston Common and the Public Garden. Beacon Hill has been home for many famous people like Robert Frost, Daniel Webster, and Senator John Kerry.

Then you have Fenway Kenmore Neighborhood which is best known for being the home of the Boston Red Sox Fenway Ballpark. Fenway Kenmore is also home to many college students because Boston University and Northeastern University are in the area.  Fenway Kenmore is also home to great bars and restaurants for everyone to enjoy. The Symphony Hall and the Museum of Fine Arts are located in the Fenway Kenmore neighborhood of Boston.

The South Boston neighborhood (or Southie) is mostly made up of Irish Catholic and is where the famous St. Patrick Day Parade is held. South Boston is known for their triple -deckers and row houses since it is a very dense place.  South Boston is home to the famous Sullivan’s Tap, where you can get a tasty bite to eat. South Boston is famous for the movies that were filmed in the area  like The Town, The Departed, Good Will Hunting, and The Boondock Saints to name a few. South Boston has the Institute of Contemporary Art which opens later this year.

Charlestown neighborhood which is located on the banks of the Boston Harbor and the Mystic River has a very historical past. It is home to the U.S.S Constitution, the Navy Yard, and the famous Bunker Hill Monument. The Navy Yard as been change into residential housing and office space which has increased the population of Charlestown.  Like all of Boston, Charlestown is easy to walk and the waterfront is only five minutes away. Many new generations of immigrants choose Charlestown as their home and to live the American dream.

Eat your way to Fenway Ballpark

There is more than just baseball going on when you are in or around Fenway Ballpark. Finding a good bite to eat before a game or after used to be a hard find but not anymore. Yes there is the famous Fenway Franks but there are so many other great places to eat in the area. Well before a Red Sox game or after a game there are five places that you should try when you are in the Fenway section of Boston.

The first, Citizen Public House at 1310 Boylston St.,is known for their Adobo pork shoulder tacos which are $8 each. This is a steal compared to what you could pay for something in the ballpark. It you are really hungry you can try the Citizen Burger which is only $14 but is a full meal in itself

Sweet Cheeks on 1381 Boylston St. is a great place to grab barbeque before or after a game. The Colossal Biscuits is a signature dish at Sweet Cheeks and are $3 each or $10 for four. The inside scoop with the Colossal Biscuits is that you do not need a butter because they already have lots of butter in the recipe.  When it comes to the barbeque you should order the pulled pork sandwich which is $12. The reason that you should order the pulled pork sandwich is because it is made from moist pulled pork and goes well with the Colossal Biscuit.

La Verdad which is on Landsdowne Street offers to die for Mexican food at affordable prices. You can get the all the traditional Mexican dishes but there are a few real stand outs on the menu. First is the grilled corn, which is not your normal grilled corn because it is topped with butter, garlic, parmesan and lime. In addition to grilled corn, Mike the General Manager, says“the tortas are our most popular food item before and after a game” The Boston Red Sox players frequent La Verdad , so you might share a table with Big Papi!

Island Creek Oyster Bar is on 500 Comm Ave is a great place to get an oyster slider and clam chowder. The Island Creek Oyster Bar offers many great seafood dishes but there are two that are just out of this world. The first is crispy oyster sliders which are $2 each and with each bite take you to oyster heaven. You cannot go anywhere in Massachusetts without having a bowl of clam chowder. The clam chowder at Island Creek Oyster Bar is a great place to try the traditional soup because it is packed with bacon, potatoes, and clams.

The Bleacher Bar, which is on 82 Lansdowne St., is a great place to grab a drink and a hotdog. The great thing about the Bleacher Bar is that it is located beneath the centerfield bleachers in Fenway Park. Matt, one of the bartenders at the Bleacher Bar, says “patrons mainly get the Bud Light and Fenway Franks.”Patrons can come to the Bleacher Bar before, during and after the game.

So what place would you like to try?
